The Ascension's Fair

The first weekend of June, from Friday the 3rd to Sunday the 5th, Oviedo offered visitors 14 different exhibitions that allowed them to get familiar to agricultural products such as honey, all kinds of appreciated Asturian cheeses, as well as the the authentic Asturian products with the presence of some of the most representative regional enterprises.

The Ascension’s Fair that dates from the 17th century, is nowadays the most important exhibition of asturian popular traditions.

Those interested got the opportunity to know about popular traditions such as the process of making bread from the Escanda’s seed to its baking in the oven. People also learned the traditional works that millers made in the past and contemplate ancient tools used for wood.

Also, people fond of animals could visit a wide exhibition of hens and animals from all countries in the world.
Those that like rural sports and game competitions also had the chance to take part in some of them as well as to follow the competitions of trunk cutting and the  First Competition of Bowling.

This year Oviedo also held the First Street Market of Craftsmanshift to buy hand made products.

Folk Music was played troughout the celebration of the Ascension’s Fair with the parade of bagpipers and groups of popular dancers the Saturday’s afternoon, as well as tipical dances represented daily in every square.
