Short Profile

  Mr. Pieter Koning
CEO
Ever since his studies (Physics, MSc), Pieter has been involved in business development and the commercialization of specialty chemicals. Understanding the customer needs is always his starting point. His constant curiosity helps to find new opportunities. At IMCD, he was responsible for different product ranges and the acquisition of new suppliers in Europe, US and Far East. At General Electric he became a Green Belt with focus on DFSS and new product introductions. At Olmix, a French agrotech company, Pieter had the worldwide responsibility for marketing and the introduction of nano-clays into technical applications. Since his start in 2013 at CLEA Technologies, Pieter is changing the company focus from a research to an implementation oriented company, expanding the focus from pharma applications towards large volume applications, like in oleochemicals or bioethanol manufacturing. As of October 1, 2015, Pieter has taken over the CEO position of Roger Sheldon.

  CLEA Technologies
Delft, Netherlands

Significantly reducing the cost of second generation bio-fuels by enzyme recycling using our proprietary magnetic enzyme immobilization platform technology.

CLEA Technologies is a small Dutch SME active in the application of enzymes in chemical reactions. The invention at the Delft Technical University around the turn of the century of enzyme immobilizations as cross-linked enzyme aggregates (CLEA) lead to the spin-off by prof. Roger Sheldon FRS, former professor of biocatalysis. Over the last decade, our focus has mainly been on pharma. With our invention of ferromagnetic CLEAs (mCLEA), our focus moved to large scale applications like bio-ethanol manufacturing. With our unique product, we overcome hurdles that were thought to be impregnable. We open the possibility to significant cost reductions in this rapidly growing billion dollar size market. Where hundreds of millions are spent in R&D to reduce enzyme costs by making them more effective, we bring a much larger cost reduction at a fraction of the investment. To further optimize, evaluate, market, protect and implement this innovative technology we are looking for new funding.
